Sylphy with new engine & reliable x-cvt transmission.
Don't just hear & see! Drive & feel the difference of Sylphy. It gives smoother power-ride than Civic 1.8.

Sylphy accelerates like a speed boat, cruise like an aircraft.(with Low RPM & high-torque engine, eg @ 110km/hr on speedo-meter but only draw below 2k RPM on tachometer at high-way cruising speed)

cheers

Sylphy
- looks very auntie(no thanks to the stupid TV ad)
- suck big times handling(very floating at highway and severe body roll at bends)
- suck big time braking for a powerful 2.0 liter car(rear drum brakes)
- still a class below when compare to Toyota and Honda
- poor resale value..etc..etc...

Civic especially the 2.0 variant is still the overall winner in term of :
- safety features(4 air bags , VSA , all round disc brakes , independence suspensions...etc..)
- more prestigious and better resale value

No doubt, Sylphy 2.0 has an edge over Civic 2.0 in term of pickup and fuel efficiency but this
should have little impact on those uncle/auntie buyers who are below average drivers.

I'll add more onto ketaauto's comment. Here's d comparison for pros & cons:-

Sylphy 2.0L:
Engine DOHC 1997cc, output>133hp@5200rpm, torque>191Nm@4400rpm - C-VTC hydraulic valve timing
road tax around RM394 higher than Civic 1.8L
Good pulling power. FC 16Km/L only on highway as Japan city is not congested.
Actual local city traffic FC is 9.0-9.6Km/L
Acceleration 0-100km/h - 10.7s
Turning circle - 10.6m
Better reliability & durability than Honda
X-CVT transmission is impressive but NS-2 ATF + labour expertise is more expensive than conventional transmission. Transmission service price is more than double the service price for conventional gearbox
drag Co-efficient - 0.32
suspension too soft, handling is real bad quite shaky due to enormous height (1510mm) and narrow width (1695mm) & torsion beam, not advisable to take hard corner at even 60km/h. Could not perform high speed cornering
rear drum brake even with BA & EBD is not match to Civic & several models of other make that has all disc brake
spare tyre is actual tyre not those temporary wheel
Tyres > 195/65 R15 - 15 inch rims

Sylphy Interior
Dash looks dull & like 1 piece at centre dash console
Rear headroom ok but lower than Lancer, Altis, Mazda 3, Latio & Sentra
Interior width is terrible, could only sit 2 adults, add 1 more will be too cramped will get prob buckle up seatbelt
No 60:40 split fold seat

Civic 1.8L:
Engine SOHC 1799cc, output>140hp@6300rpm, torque>174Nm@4300rpm - I-VTEC mechanical valve timing
road tax cheaper
FC for 1.8L is around 10km/l local city traffic, in reality better than Sylphy
Acceleration 0-100km/h - 10.2s
Turning circle is quite big - 11.6m (seen many having problem with 3-point turn)
5-speed Auto conventional transmission - lower service cost
drag co-efficient - 0.29cd or lower
Handling is superior - multi-link suspension,
all disc brake + safety features giving better & safer braking capability
spare tyre is temporary wheel
Tyres = 205/55 R16 - 16 inch rims

Civic Interior
Dashboard looks futuristic
Rear headroom is bad, front headroom just ok
Legroom just like barely enough feel like having only 2500mm wheelbase due to much space wasted on sloped A-pillar
Interior width is good
60:40 split fold seat, good for IKEA customers

If only these 2 made it into your shortlist, if you want performance & handling go for Civic. Sylphy is more towards comfort + getting u from point A to point B. Choice is yours

1 thing to point out...The X-CVT transmission is impressive and service cost is LOW not that high. Saw a taiwan website has shown the same XCVT is to be serviced around an impressive up to 200,000km interval compare to tranditional gearbox 40,000km...so which one is better u go and find out further....

Javraptor
a big salute to you , well done .

Kly
CVT(except Audi's Multitronic) is never an impressive term to most of us due to its highly failure rate
and stupid rubber band effect (slipping clutch syndome). And there is no such thing as "cheap" when
come to maintaining or changing a stupid CVT gearbox .

I think the most impressive feature of Sylphy is the xCVT g/b, yet u call it "stupid" smile_blackeye.gif wacko.gif
It is this g/b that make Sylphy so at home in both h/way + city, that is if u drive serenely. Aggressive drivers should look elsewhere.

btw Murano 3.5 oso using the the same xCVT, it should be quite reliable kua..

Correction : my old Wira's wheelbase is 2500mm. Civic's *slightly* longer at 2700mm. smile_thumbup.gif

Ketaauto,

Did you own any CVT b4 ? If you do own one and it's from Honda particularly Honda City i don't blame you for saying CVT having high fail rate and bad impressive for rubber effect n etc....i just wonder where on earth do you come to the conclusion that Nisan/Sylphy's xCVT will never impressive due to highly failure rate ? Mind to share with us on this ? ? I'm sure everyone here very the willing to listen and to learn from you such expert advise on CVT....
