Petaling Jaya, 17 November, 2006 – The fourth round of the BFGoodrich Grass Racing Autocross will be held at the Shah Alam Stadium car park this Sunday, 19th November 2006. This is the last round for the year, and 100 competitors have already registered for the event. BFGoodrich is the main sponsor of the event, while MPT and Redline oils are co-sponsors.
Fans and enthusiasts will also be able to see five young ladies competing at the event, four of them for the first time in their lives. Kylie Lee Mei Foong, 24, a publisher, event organiser, and web designer, is entering a Honda Civic 1.6 for the autocross. “I heard about GRA when they did their first event at KLCC. I actually wanted to enter then, but did not know anybody. Now, I am here with my friends who have also signed up,” she said.
Many of the competitors are taking part for the first time, and the atmosphere at the GRA workshop in Taman Mayang Jaya was almost like a carnival tonight when AW paid them a visit. Up to midnight, the place was a hive of activity, with competitors getting last minute tips on driving, getting their cars scrutineered and putting their stickers on. It was also a place to make new friends for many of the young competitors. To keep people busy, Ian, the event organiser put up a PS2 for virtual driving.
‘Veteran’ autocrosser was there with his MR2 turbo, and so was Hammond Lai with his 2.0 litre Civic. YK Chan’s hot-looking Kelisa looked real nice with all his sponsor’s stickers in place.
Even Joe Prince, recovering from a broken ankle, was there, with his young 8-year old nephew, Michael, in tow. Michael is starting young, and hopes to enter a GRA event one day, not too far in the future.
Ken Choong brought his very quick Putra too, and is all excited about Sunday’s event. He will be sharing his car with Ivan Khong.
Make it a point to go to the Shah Alam Stadium this Sunday; it will be fun!
