Those of you who like the Honda Jazz but not quite willing to take a punt on hybrid technology can now consider a more affordable variant of the petrol Jazz 1.5 which was just introduced by Honda Malaysia today. The new Jazz 1.5 Grade S is priced at RM99,800, a full RM10,000 cheaper than the Grade V that is now being discontinued.
That RM10,000 reduction in price naturally comes with a reduction in equipment, and items deleted include side sill garnish, exhaust pipe finisher, paddle shift, cruise control and steering wheel audio control. It still offers 15" alloy wheels, front fog lights, dual airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, and VSA. The highly-versatile Ultra Seats are also crucially retained.
There are no mechanical alterations to the Jazz Grade S, so it's still the same 1.5-litre single-cam i-VTEC sending 118hp and 146Nm the front wheels through Honda's in-house 5-speed automatic transmission. This is most definitely the spec and pricing that the Jazz should have been offered with right from the start.
This is, however, not exactly a debut of a Grade S variant for the Jazz. Some of you would probably recall that the current generation Jazz was launched in 2008 with a two-model line-up. The Grade S model of that vintage was more expensively priced at RM104,800, not as well-equipped as the present offering, and was consequently discontinued by the time its mid-life facelift came about last year.
The Jazz S is available in Brilliant White Pearl, Polished Metal Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl. It is now available in all Honda Malaysia showrooms. Honda Malaysia targets to sell 210 units by the end of this year.
