A new Alza marks the start of Perodua's year in 2014 as the company has launched an updated version of its best-selling MPV offering improved features at lower prices. The facelifted model comes with a choice of three trim levels - the Standard and SE models have a choice of manual and automatic transmission, whilst the range topping Advance Version comes standard with an automatic.

The mechanical package remains unaltered with the existing 1.5-litre DVVT engine continuing service as the only powertrain of choice paired to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Safety is enhanced with the addition of ISOFIX child seat mounts, and interior practicality is improved with the introduction of split-folding third row seats, both features standard for all variants.

As with the original model, the Alza comes with slightly different dashboard configurations depending on transmission. The manual version persists with two regular front seats separated by a centre console and floor-mounted gear lever; the auto version, meanwhile, has a dash-mounted gear selector and a bench seat up front, which still caters only for two passengers, but with a centre arm rest. A storage compartment now fills the space inside that centre arm rest.

“The New Alza represents both Perodua and its vendor’s combined efforts to give greater value to our customers. All-in-all the improvements made equalled a value of RM4,000 per unit,” Perodua President and CEO, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

“On top of these improvements, we are also reducing the on-the-road price for the Alza variant which range by between 2.1% and 7.4% - thus making the Alza the most competitive MPV in the market,” he continued.

The entry-level Standard variants see their prices drop by RM1,117 (2.1%) to hit the road at RM52,400 and RM55,400 with insurance for the manual and automatic versions respectively. Higher up, the SE and Advanced variants enjoy greater drop in prices, the former shedding RM4,117 (6.8%) of the predecessor's price whilst the latter now charges RM5,117 (7.4%) less than before.

The Alza SE is priced at RM56,400 for its manual version with the automatic alternative costing RM3,000 more. The range topping Advanced Version goes for RM64,000, and it gets a new multimedia system with a roof-mounted monitor for rear passengers and a dash-integrated navigation system with reverse camera up front. Adding further value to the equation is a three-year free service package which is now applicable to all Perodua models including the Alza.

“Since we open bookings for the New Perodua Alza on the 20th of December last year, I am very pleased to announce that we have received a total of 5,000 bookings during that 21-day period!” Aminar enthused.

Aminar further pointed out that since its launch in November 2009, some 167,000 units of the Perodua Alza have been sold up till December 2013, averaging 3,400 units per month over the 50-month period.
