Hi bro,

Im totally consent with your point at the first paragraph (highlighted in RED). It can be summarized as the differences the Cost of Living. What i mean earlier we cant compare if we earn in RM and we spend in RM, it already suit to our cost of living in Malaysia. If we earn in USD, we will spend in USD, BUT it will give us more power of buying if we earn in USD and spend in RM.

We love to compare any price from overseas without realizing the cost of living for each country is justify and suited for their average income and lifestyle.

Back to the Symphony 250i, if the price will be quoted at 17k-18k it is totally too high for a Taiwanese bike ( IF we compare Gilera/ Piaggio) In additional, SYM is the Taiwan brand, manufactured in China and assembled in Penang, Malaysia. Hence, the cost to import from China to Malaysia should be cheaper compare from China to USA.

The only CHALLENGE to be a Malaysian is a VERY VERY HIGH TAX from the government!! heheheh. As a consumer we have a RIGHT to voice out or whining/whinging to the MForce to revise their price before its too late.

Btw, it just another my 1 cent opinion. smile_big.gif

Cheers!

Hehe yeah this is also just my humble opinion, its all good smile.gif But I think u miss what I'm trying to point out... as I said before, I'm not comparing our cost of living to their's... this is not about cost of living or earning power etc. I'm comparing one bike to another. The reason I chose prices in the US is because they have one of the lowest vehicle taxes in the world, next to the UK. So any prices you see in US are more or less reflective of the actual value of the vehicle. That is the point I'm trying to make... to them, the ER6-n is only a little more than the Sym. But here, the ER6 costs alot more than the Sym. Both are CKD. I'm sorry but I don't think I can explain it any clearer than this smile.gif

Yes Sym should be cheaper than an italian stallion because it is a Taiwan make. But I've also read many good reviews on the Sym. It holds #9 spot in the top 100 scooters according to motorcycle.com. Does anybody else think that the gts200 is currently underpriced? Most of the reviews from current gts200 owners have been positive (as far as I have read). It seems like a really good scooter for what we're paying.

No hard feelings bro grinchest, all in the spirit of discussion smile.gif

jomanji,

Perhaps it is better not to say GTS 200 is underpriced regardless of your argument. We're are here voicing our hope of having a reasonably priced GTS250 so the last thing we want is getting GTS200 price jacked-up to 'justify' the purpoted sub 20k price of the GTS250. smile_wink.gif

Cheers bro

balee,

heh good point well made. Uhm... if thr any Mforce people reading this please note that my earlier arguments were completely nonsensical bordering on insane, and were made under torture. I so dont reckon that the gts200 is underpriced. In fact, you should lower the price further. And please price the 250 at around RM13k, thankee very much. hehe.

Any news on the launch... should be soon yah.

Basically these flers just see an opening or slot in the price segmentation between an italian pedigree @ 25k and the lack of any other viable option in the 250cc range & exploited/ capitalized on that. Like i say before & i would reiterate my stand again, if at just sub 20k, i'd still beg, borrow or steal another 5k for an italian. Just don't see myself paying sub 20k for a taiwanese wannabe, no matter how well made. I'd be concerned about depreciation issues as well. But that's just my thoughts!

Hi bro,

No worries it just a discussion not a debate comp..exchange knowledge and opinion..hahhahahah. Btw i got your point right now, suddenly it getting clear and clearer now. smile_big.gif

Previously, u were referring to the price of ER6 and SYM 250 in USD and RM with break down details. Thats why i felt it is very unfair to compare in that way if we referring to our cost of living in Malaysia. My apologize for misunderstanding, recently RM is very sensitive issue for me. hahhahahah.

To answer why the price for ER6 and SYM 250 is not so much different in US, personally i think MAYBE they have lots of option with very good competitive price in the US market plus with the lowest vehicle taxes in the world. (referring to your statement above) Our market demand here in Malaysia is totally different in US, if the bike too expensive in US nobody will buy your bike. And again we cannot compare our price here with US because of different market demand and power of buying.

Here in Malaysia ER6 is under SBK, in Malaysia SBK only owned by a group of people that have thicker pocket. Our market already exist just like that. But, with the thread like this, we urge to reduce the price of GTS250i perhaps it will give some changes to our Bike market in Malaysia. GTS 200 is an alternative bike to get comfort journey with reliable safety aspect compare other bike like a Kapchai.

To hold #9 spot in top of 100 scooters doesnt mean the bike must be expensive and with that reason also you cant just raise the price double because of new model is coming. Im agree with Balee when you said that SYM GTS200 is underpriced in Malaysia market, I strongly disagree with that statement. Thats why i refer to our GDP and GDI in my previous post to make it clear. Maybe for some people that have extra money in their pocket will categorized SYM 200 as underpriced bike but for those who are not will see it in the other way.

Its my pleasure to have this kind of discussion. No worries and no harm for the sake of gaining new knowledge and opinion.

Btw, it just the other of my 1 cent opinion.

Cheers!!

Agreed grinchest, with all your points. So... if US has one of the lowest taxes on vehicles, then the prices there must be (more or less) the cheapest in the world, right? So if the gts250 (or RV250) over there has a RRP of US$4988, what hope do we have to get it cheaper than that? Bearing in mind that all our vehicles tend to be more expensive than theirs.

That is why, as much as I would like the new sym to be sub RM15k, being a moderate income earner myself, I dont see that happening... but who knows, a miracle might happen. We might wake up tomorrow to find the ringgit stronger than the pound. Then the gts250 would be around RM3000... yeah!

Perhaps SYM should take a lesson from TATA, to make cheaper bikes! If a car can retail for rm 7k, tax & freight issues aside. I don't see why a bike can't do so. Proton & P2 also pls take note!!

Hahahahhaha.. I wished 1RM = STG 7

Instead of blaming at our low Forex and cheaper price in overseas we as a consumer still have a power and right to do something about it.

A campaign initiated by Klscoot and Hotkoko is an example what we should do constantly. Unfortunately, not so many of us in the same boat.

Our consumer culture in Malaysia is more like a "Follow the Bufollow".

As a conclusion, i strongly urge everybody in this forum not to buy Symphony 250i if the price exceed more than RM13k unless our Ringgit stronger than Pound. Heheheheh smile_wink.gif

Cheers!!

Do u think SYM can use adhesives instead of welding the frame joints together to save on costs like the TATA NANO?
